The Habit Burger Grill, Children’s Cancer Network Fire Up Support for Families Fighting Childhood Cancer

Twelve restaurants to host fundraiser on Feb. 21 to benefit Run to Fight Children’s Cancer

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 12, 2019) – On Feb. 21, The Habit Burger Grill (Nasdaq: HABT) will fire up the fight against pediatric cancer with an all-day, statewide fundraiser at 12 restaurants – all in the name of helping Arizona families affected by the disease.

The Habit Burger Grill, home of the award-winning Charburger, will donate 20 percent of sales from guests who present a flyer* at restaurants in greater Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. The proceeds are earmarked for Children’s Cancer Network’s Run to Fight Children’s Cancer, Arizona’s largest race dedicated solely to pediatric cancer. It’s the second year that The Habit has partnered with Children’s Cancer Network in the battle against childhood cancer.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is a vital part of our mission at The Habit Burger Grill,” said Chepe Valdez, Habit Burger Grill district manager in Arizona. “We are thrilled to help children and families facing childhood cancer and hope to help ease their burden.”

This fundraiser includes a friendly – though competitive – challenge. Past and present race starters for the Run to Fight Children’s Cancer, along with other cancer families and supporters, will each be aligned with one of The Habit’s 12 participating locations. Families will compete to raise the most money at their designated location – one delicious Charburger at a time.

“We are so grateful for The Habit’s generosity and support in raising much-needed funds for research, new treatments, patient education and other services for our families,” said Patti Luttrell, executive director of Children’s Cancer Network. “We have a long way to go in finding a cure, but partners like The Habit Burger Grill are helping us get one step closer.”

The fundraiser will support the 9th Annual Run to Fight Children’s Cancer, which will take place on Saturday, March 16. Presented by Children’s Cancer Network and hosted at Grand Canyon University in west Phoenix, the event features a 10K run, a 5K run/walk, and a quarter-mile Cancer Survivors Walk to honor children who have beaten cancer, the kids who are still fighting, and those who have lost their battle with the disease.

An estimated 15,270 adolescents and children ages 19 and younger were diagnosed with cancer in 2017, according to the National Cancer Institute. Moreover, the number of childhood cancer survivors tops an estimated 420,000, and more than 60 percent of survivors experience chronic and even life-threatening secondary effects from toxic cancer treatments. Still, childhood cancer is the most overlooked and underfunded category of all cancer research.

Since its inception, the Run to Fight Children’s Cancer has raised nearly $600,000. All proceeds stay in Arizona and directly benefit families through Children’s Cancer Network and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The Habit’s participating restaurants are located in Chandler, Gilbert, South Tempe, Midtown Phoenix, Central Phoenix, North Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Glendale, Avondale, Tucson and Flagstaff. For addresses and hours of operation, visit habitburger.com.
